MPs agree to take below inflation pay - and give up right to vote on own pay
Posted by harriet in Uncategorized | January 25th, 2008
A very good debate in the House of Commons last night with a great deal of agreement on all sides:
*that MPs should be paid fairly for the important work they do
*that we should not this year have a rise above what others in the public sector have been awarded - ie not above 2%
*and that we should set up an independent mechanism so that in future we do not vote on our own pay.
So widespread was the agreement to this that it went through the House of Commons without even a vote!

So the 60% you had plus the massive increase in expenses mean your having a difficult time, try living on sickness benefits, yes I know get a job how about one in which I can have a nice little loan to pay off my mortgage

MPs pay should be permanently linked to that of others in the public sector. Their expense entitlements, which should be open to full public scrutiny, need to be linked the public spending round.
If the public were given a say in what politicians were worth, they wouldn’t be getting much at all.
